Foreword

The plan to write this hand book arose about three years ago. When designing a product or part, it is always important to keep in mind the method for manufacturing. This is still often underestimated. Time seems more important. In order supply optimal price performance ratio, maximum flexibility and constant quality, it is essential to understand and use more than just the basic principles of metal forming. To predict the manufacturability of parts that are to be produced by means of metal forming, it is ever more important to understand the relation between product, process and tool. This hand book describes (shortly) the most used metal forming technologies for sheet metal formed parts.

Design rules, systematic experience and theoretical expertise added with practical examples are gathered as support for several aspects of manufacturing sheet metal parts. Such as there are: product design, tool design and engineering, manufacturing engineering, mass production technologies. This hand book can be used as a reference from product design to production. Often skills and craftsmanship based on thorough experience, are used. An extensive list of sheet metals, their mechanical properties and codes is included. The subjects are composed for a wide audience. Of course not every user / reader needs the same information, but hopefully every user will find what he or she needs.
